What is the opportunity?
The RBC Business Risk Manager, (Trade) role is for 1st line of defense risk management within Commercial Banking, covering an assigned product/service team and/or priority risk horizontal across the business. Operating within RBCs Enterprise Risk Management Framework, and as part of the Commercial Banking Business Risk Management team, the incumbent is accountable for leading business risk identification and mitigation, managing the controls inventory and ensuring the alignment of strategy to risk posture and risk appetite. Role directly supports the Director, Non-Financial Risk & Advisory. What will you do?
- Lead and facilitate proactive risk identification via performing quality assurance for Trade Finance Structured products to ensure that risks are understood, and that appropriate mitigation, controls and monitoring are in place for the business.
- Create Quality assurance framework wherever needed in the business.
- Support other risk management activities in Transaction Banking team for Trade Finance and Cash management products.
- Ensure robust risk governance by exercising the following RBC leadership qualities: (i) Simplify things that are complicated, so the business can take intelligent risks to grow the business (ii) Know what must be perfect vs. get done, so the business can focus resources on what matter (iii) Partner with the right people to achieve collective results, so the business can quickly adapt to changing circumstances.
- Support and lead adhoc or special risk related programs/projects as needed.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- 5-7 years of demonstrated excellence in a financial service role that involved understanding of Non-Financial Risk Framework with a preference on focus on trade finance.
- Strategic mindset: understands how day-to-day business activity connects to the bigger picture
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to influence & impact business, internal & external stakeholders
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking ability; inquisitive, comfortable challenging current practices
- Sound understanding of risk frameworks and practices used in banking
- Prioritizes for impact; able to manage a broad and demanding workload
- Collaborative team member
- Excellent communicator with strong writing and presentation skills
- Experience with emerging communications and technology (i.e., web-based meetings, social media, digital banking, and mobile applications)
Nice to have:
- Understanding of Non-Financial Risk Framework for Cash Management products.
- Experience in completion and execution of RCSA (Risk and Control Self-assessment) identify risks, control implementation and monitoring.
- Post-secondary education at college or university level in business administration or financial management preferred e.g., BBA, B. of Commerce or equivalent work experience
