Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM) is the asset management division of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) serving individual and institutional investors in Canada, US, Europe and Asia. Central Canada currently includes Ontario for all CIRO dealers.

The mission for the Director, Business Development, Central Canada, in partnership with the Advisor Channel Leadership team, is to focus on outcomes, ensure alignment across teams and enable GAM to exceed advisor expectations while accelerating asset and sales growth. This will enable the firm to double our business over the next 5 years measured by assets under management.

What will you do?

Accelerate Growth:

  • Accelerate the growth of Advisor Channel assets and sales over the next 3-5 years, increasing the number of advisors we work with at focus dealers.

Sales Leadership:

  • Work in partnership with Managing Director, Regional Sales, Central Canada, to develop and execute the regional sales plan
  • Effective leadership of 12 territories (12 direct reports, Business Development Managers), ensuring alignment within and across territory teams.
  • Build and maintain a talent pipeline, including fostering development of our Business Development Associates in partnership with Associate Director, Advisor Channel Sales, Business Development
  • Hire, coach, and retain top sales talent.
  • Mentor and develop existing employees through call coaching, call shadowing and sharing best practices. Identify and share opportunities and approaches that teams can apply in their respective territories.
  • Guide territory business planning, adoption of our sales process, and a service and growth mindset.
  • Coach to use of data and technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness of sales team
  • Foster an internally collaborative/externally competitive team culture with a focus on outcomes, alignment and support of GAMs strategy and sales approach.
  • Promote a culture of appropriate expense management and compliance with sales practices

Business Leadership:

  • As a member of the ACS Leadership Team, you are accountable for our national results, in addition to specific results in the Central region.
  • As part of the ACS Leadership Team, you will help develop our strategy roadmap and implement our sales strategy, representing RBC GAM and the RBCiShares Alliance.
  • Communicate our national roadmap and vision to regional teams and enable them to execute effectively.
  • Represent RBC GAM and participate in cross-functional projects and work effectively with all stakeholders in helping execute on both team and business strategies.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Proven track record of sales and/or sales leadership including specific experience with CIRO dealer partners
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and leading high performing teams
  • Growth mindset and solution orientation
  • Technical knowledge of capital markets and deep understanding of mutual funds, ETFs, and Separately Managed Accounts
  • Strong relationship skills and proven ability to engage partners in pursuit of collective goals
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Humility

Nice-to-have:

  • Professional designation: CFA, CIM, CFP
  • Post-graduate degree

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$110,000.00 - $160,000.00
