XVA Structurer, Counterparty Risk Trading
RBC
Job Description
What is the opportunity?
An Analyst or Associate role on the XVA Desk within RBC's Treasury Services group in Toronto. The XVA Desk trades, structures, and prices counterparty-related risks (CVA, FVA, KVA, and ColVA) for all derivative asset classes globally. The desk also manages derivatives collateral optimisation across Variation Margin, CCP initial margin, and regulatory margin.
This role combines immediate front office responsibilities with building the XVA Desk of the future. You'll start by pricing and hedging trades, running daily processes, and supporting current operations. But critically, you'll also begin identifying how these workflows can be systematised, automated, and enhanced through technology. As you develop expertise, you'll increasingly focus on designing intelligent systems, building pricing and hedging tools, and leveraging AI to transform how XVA risks are priced and managed. This dual focus—balancing a hands-on global derivatives role with an engineering mindset—makes the role ideal for someone who wants genuine front-office XVA experience while actively shaping the desk's evolution.
The role suits recent graduates or professionals with 1–3 years of experience who combine derivatives knowledge with strong technical skills and engineering instincts. You'll work alongside experienced traders, structurers, and quants while partnering with IT development teams to build autonomous pricing and hedging systems.
The level of the position (Analyst/Associate) will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary, a variable bonus structure tied to performance, and a comprehensive benefits package. Specific details will be discussed during the interview process and tailored to the candidate's qualifications and the role's requirements."
What will you do?
Initial responsibilities:
Quote XVAs (ie. CVA, FVA, KVA, and ColVA etc.) on live transactions, incorporating hedging bid/offers, XVA book axes, and client feedback
Partner with global Sales and Trading desks to explain XVA charges and support complex trade pricing
Run daily processes including PnL flash, risk exchanges, XVA transfer pricings, and related reporting
As you develop:
Identify automation opportunities within daily workflows and translate business requirements into technical solutions alongside IT teams
Build prototypes using AI/Python and develop data pipelines to enable real-time analytics and autonomous decision-making
Partner with Quants and IT to design and enhance XVA pricing tools across all derivative asset classes
Explore applications of AI and machine learning to enhance pricing accuracy, efficiency, and risk insights
What do you need to succeed?
Required:
Undergraduate degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, statistics, or economics with strong quantitative coursework
Understanding of derivatives fundamentals: pricing concepts, Greeks, and basic options theory
Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly and translate between business and technology stakeholders
Advanced Excel skills including financial modelling and data analysis
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred:
Familiarity with derivatives pricing through coursework, internships, or work experience
Python skills including data manipulation (pandas, numpy), automation scripting, and building analytical tools
Previous front office, risk management, quantitative finance, or data science experience

Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
Opportunities to do challenging work
The profile we're looking for
We need someone who thinks like an engineer but wants to reshape the derivatives trading landscape. Someone who can price a complex XVA trade today and architect the system to automate it tomorrow. You should be excited about learning the business deeply—not just to execute it, but to transform it. You're curious about how AI could surface insights we're currently missing and eager to experiment with new technologies in a high-stakes environment. Equally important: you're comfortable holding real pricing and trading responsibilities while you're learning and building. This isn't a role where you step away from the desk to become a technologist; it's where you do both, simultaneously.
