About the role

The Technology and Transformation Strategy team is looking for a Senior Data Analyst with well-rounded experience building back-end data models and front-end business intelligence solutions (visualizations, data, and analytics).

To be successful in this role, you will have at least 5 years designing and building visually impactful dashboards that draw attention to important insights from data. In this role, you will be using data from numerous DevOps and other tools used by application development teams to highlight important opportunities for improvement to speed, quality, security, and maturity.

The successful candidate will have strong technical and problem-solving skills and will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be accountable for results.

What will you do?

• Bring your expert knowledge to propose and guide direction of visualization solutions.

• Build back-end aggregation of data keyed by source code repository to allow for views by multiple dimensions and hierarchies such as applications composed of those repositories, teams that support the applications, business units, and business groups to which the teams belong.

• Design appropriate and insightful visualizations that draw attention to important potential improvements and allow interaction by drilling into the areas where the problems can be addressed.

• Collaborate on data engineering with the team that builds applications to extract data from the tools, to optimize the data model for visualization.

• With an internal client-centered approach to UI, take end-user experience, value and utility, and quality seriously. Feedback should drive evolution.

• Be the custodian of BI solutions. Respond to problems quickly.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical operational issues related to dashboards and data aggregation.

• Review and analyze team objectives and goals through impact analysis to advocate for continuous improvement.

• Stay current with trends in emerging technologies and how they could apply to Sun Life.

What you need to succeed?

• University Degree in a related field

• 5+ years of working with visualization tools like Tableau and Grafana

• Expert skills with crafting complex queries in SQL for relational databases like PostgreSQL or similar

• Experience designing professional, visually appealing, and impactful dashboards, that reveal useful insights while being easy to use and understand.

• Knowledge of combining data from multiple sources, such as, CSV files and databases. Normalizing data for aggregated views and superior dashboard performance optimization with large volumes of data.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
