Job Description:
Canadian Operations is the support unit within Sun Life Financial Canada accountable for the execution of business processes and projects supporting Individual, Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services and Client Solutions. As a member of the Financial Operations team, the focus of this role is leading robust financial analytics that facilitate making business decisions. With more than 5,000 FTEs in Canada and Asia, and an annual budget of over 800M, it creates value for the enterprise by delivering industry-leading customer service and focusing on increasing productivity and efficiency.
The Senior Financial Analyst will assist in furthering the expense analytics agenda for Financial Operations Planning & Analysis (FOPA) with a strong focus on detailed variance analysis, creating and maintaining financial models, understanding key cost drivers and influencing people in the organization to drive cost management and reductions. This role also will be part of the critical transformation of Finance and help evolve how Operations finance works with the Canadian Finance Centre of Excellence.
This hands-on role, reporting to the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, will also provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to interact with members of the Canadian Operations Leadership Team and members of the finance teams from the other Canadian Business and Support Units.
What will you do?
Execute and improve on financial models/tools/processes to support Operations monthly and quarterly reporting processes
Utilize complex models to report outcomes for financial and non-financial data such as key drivers impacting the business
Build strong partnerships with Operations senior leaders and become a trusted financial advisor
Lead/support other adhoc financial analysis and consulting as required. This may include expense studies, cost benefit analysis, and other one-off analysis
Partner with other finance areas to drive forward the future vision of financial functions
Understand, and be able to explain to non-finance partners, common charges and SLF expense management process
Support the expense budgeting (including allocations), forecasting, strategic plan and annual plan processes
Be able to recognize and implement continuous improvements

Capable of distilling complex concepts into simple key messages and insights
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Strong relationship management skills with a focus on client orientation; including excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
Analytical thinking - designs/orchestrates use of financial and business analytics for decision making
Problem solving skills with a natural curiosity for root cause analysis to identify key levers of financial and operational performance
Demonstrated strength and ability to design and implement processes and standards
Strong prioritization and organization skills -- capable of meeting deadlines in a high performance environment
Strong financial analysis, reporting and presentation skills
Comfortable with ambiguity and change
Strong PC skills (Role utilizes tools such as: MSOffice Suite, Sharepoint, Oracle, Tableau, Hyperion)
Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and within a team environment
Assets:
Financial modeling experience
Experience in the Insurance or Financial Services industry (~5 years)
Expense management experience
Financial designation (CPA, CFA, etc.)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
