Job Description:
Director, Public Fixed Income, Credit Research – SLC Management
What is in it for you:
The Public Fixed Income team is responsible for managing the global public bond and money market holdings of Sun Life and a growing third-party asset management business, which totals approximately C$123 billion. The Public Fixed Income Research team works closely with portfolio managers and traders based in North America. Analysts are responsible for industry sectors, with accountabilities including monitoring existing global portfolios, participating in cross sector discussions, maintain fundamental rankings and recommending portfolio additions/deletions based on credit, issue terms, market trading levels, and ESG considerations.
The Director, Public Fixed Income position will be responsible for covering a subsector of the financial sector that may include REITs, insurance or finance companies. Analysis will focus largely on global investment grade corporate credit and will be based either in Wellesley, MA or Toronto, Canada. A successful candidate must have the ability to be a value-added partner to portfolio managers, traders, and other analysts on the team.
What you will do:
- Perform fundamental credit research for financial companies and work closely with other members of the Financials team.
- Research macroeconomic or sector specific topics of interest to support team discussions.
- Monitor existing portfolio positions and help in making relative value recommendations based on a combination of bottom-up and top-down fundamental credit research.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of materials for credit, sector, or topical reviews.
- Participate in meetings with corporate issuers and industry analysts.
- Provide compliance and data analytical support.
- Provide support on various ESG and Sustainable Investing initiatives.
- Other ad-hoc projects within the team and/or across different investment asset groups to support improving our investment process. Such projects could include AI, digitalization, and other related evolving technologies.
What you will need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in investments or economics. Preferred areas of study include business, accounting, finance, economics, or other mathematically orientated majors.
- 5+ years of experience covering investment grade financial companies.
- Ability to work independently in a time sensitive environment and willingness to contribute insights in team discussions.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong desire to learn and be inquisitive
- Ability to make decisions with limited and imperfect information
- Ability to work under pressure and be willing to challenge consensus views
ADDITIONAL SKILLS (OR PREFERRED SKILLS):
- Quantitative skills and interest preferred.
- CFA designation a plus.
