Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President Strategic Execution and Change Management, the Director Change Management & Communications is responsible for the development and execution of change management and communications strategies that support IID key strategic initiatives. In addition, embed change sustainably across the Independent advisor network and RA&S teams. This role will oversee a team of change management consultants who will support change activities, communications and training activities.

What will you do?

Change Management

  • Develop, lead and execute the IID change management capability, taking both a strategic and hands on approach to assess stakeholder impact, risk and change readiness for key initiatives across RA&S and the IID channel. This will include diagnosis of key change initiatives and supporting teams in assessing potential impacts and developing change management plans to support the implementation of initiatives.

  • Implement and maintain a holistic change management plan across all IID initiatives to align and ensure appropriate sequencing to introduce change that minimizes disruption and maximizes adoption and business impact.

  • Partner with training and education teams to develop and implement training based on skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to implement changes, tools and technology

  • Inform key stakeholders on change management strategies and support a unified approach/process across the IID business teams

  • Identify adoption barriers and execution risks, and work with relevant partners/stakeholders and business owners to overcome

  • Develop communication strategy and content to convey key messages cohesively

  • Deploy communication to the appropriate channels for target audience and ensure accuracy and timeliness of communication delivery

  • Ensure smooth transition of change to ongoing ‘business as usual’ teams

  • Define and measure success metrics and create reporting and dashboards to monitor change progress including tracking of dependencies across all IID initiatives

  • Identify and report on change management-related risks, and develop mitigating actions

Strategic Execution

  • Create and maintain a total portfolio view across IID that comprises key strategic change and transformational initiatives by collaborating with RA&S internal teams, Technology partners, internal Sun Life business units.

  • Support project portfolio execution to ensure alignment with strategy, alignment of resources and target timeline

  • Transform strategic vision into executable initiatives and activities and orchestrate delivery with partners across RA&S and other functions across Canada Business Group

Team Management and Other Accountabilities

  • Lead and coach a team of change leaders through proactive career development and continuous feedback loop

  • Grow the change management community within RA&S by providing training, coaching and support to partners on best practices

  • Actively promote RA&S brand to attract talent and external partners

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and policy requirements

What do you need to succeed?

  • Change Management certification or designation, e.g. Prosci Certification, Association of Change Manage Professional (ACMP) or Change Management Institute (CMI) preferred or equivalent experience

  • University degree in business or related discipline

  • Minimum of 8 years relevant business experience, ideally within insurance, wealth management and / or other financial services

  • Proven track record in successfully leading execution of change management functions for large programs and projects

  • Proven ability to coach and mentor to facilitate effective change

  • Strong business acumen with ability to use data to inform decision making

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience delivering training sessions would be an asset

  • Balance in practical execution, strategic thinking along with hands on experience to take broad perspectives

  • Strong influencing and relationship management skills in partnering with peers and senior management towards cultural change and introduction of new concepts

  • Ability to empathize and take different stakeholder lens (e.g. Advisors, Clients)

  • Experience in leading high performing teams and diverse teams

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong ability to use Microsoft office suite, particularly excel and powerpoint

  • Proven experience in project management, including project planning and progress reporting would be an asset

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
