Job Description:
As an important member of the Sun Life Canada Chief Risk Officer’s team, this role reports to the Director, Operational Risk who reports to the AVP, Risk Management. The team is responsible for the overall integrity of the operational risk management function across Canada, ensuring that these functions operate in compliance with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, associated Policies and Operating Guidelines that allow Sun Life Canada to effectively comply with external regulatory requirements.
The role of the Senior Operational Risk Analyst, Operational Risk Management for Sun Life Canada is a second line of defense function. The incumbent is expected to provide risk expertise, and effective input, advice, oversight, and challenge of select operational risk programs. In doing so, the incumbent will need to effectively partner with Corporate Risk teams and the first line of defense Risk Center of Excellence (CoE) to support, while effectively challenging, the Business Unit Risk Owners in the management of Risk.
What will you do?
Acting as the key person supporting Canada Risk’s Operational Risk Directors for a select combination of risk programs, activities, and functions. These will change from time-to-time and could include (but are not limited to) a sub-set of the following:
Supporting the second line responsibilities associated with various aspects of Canada’s Operational Risk management program including but is not limited to Third Party Risk Management, Model and Business Computing Tools Risk Management, Key Risk Management, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), Policy Non-Compliances (PNCs), and Operational Risk Events (OREs).
Supporting the roll-out and transition plans for new or changed Risk policy requirements including contributing to the feedback cycle with Corporate policy owners, and maintenance of programs to enable first line risk owners to effectively meet policy requirements.
Supporting Canada Risk during the implementation of Enterprise Internal Risk Management systems including design, testing, training and implementation.
Delivering effective presentations/communications to the Risk CoE through various forums to enable first line risk teams consistently and effectively comply with Risk policy requirements.
Leveraging technology to provide insights through the development of reports, redesigning processes, project planning, and presentations.
Supporting quarter end reporting processes including review and effective challenge of first line submissions.
Ensuring processes are efficient, accurately operated, clearly documented and communicated.
Maintaining, updating and monitoring risk tools (SharePoint and Group Mail) enabling effective and efficient interactions with users including accountability and ownership over the administration of access, periodic access reviews and effective records management.
Demonstrate ownership of the programs and processes that you support through:
Facilitating effective second line monitoring and challenge while working directly with the Risk Centre of Excellence (CoE) and other partners
Knowledge of the business, partners, processes, and customers you support in the development of lean processes, efficient tools, and effective reporting
In partnership with Corporate program owners, the Risk CoE, and first line risk owners, you will contribute to maintaining select risk management programs

Minimum two years of experience in risk management or related functions (e.g. Compliance, Finance, Audit) with a possible certification in risk management
Strong working knowledge and hands on experience with MS Office products with a history of continuous improvement
Working knowledge with hands-on experience in tool and process automation, for example, Excel automation and SharePoint functionality
University degree or equivalent experience
Successful experience interpreting policy and/or regulatory requirements that lead to the execution of effective processes that support and enable policy compliance
Knowledge of the insurance, wealth and health industry products, distribution, and service
Experience/knowledge in Risk Management, Operational Risk, Audit, Compliance, Finance
Familiarity and experience with SharePoint, Tableau, Archer, ServiceNow, Fusion, Ariba

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
