Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled, bilingual, and empathetic Claims Consultant to join our Life Claims department. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with proven adjudication authority and a data-driven approach. This role combines claims processing expertise with mentorship responsibilities and involvement in ongoing claims initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Review and process complex life insurance claims, leveraging your adjudication authority to make informed decisions

2. Communicate effectively in both English and [specify second language] with beneficiaries, policy holders, and other stakeholders regarding claim status and requirements

3. Analyze policy documents, death certificates, and other relevant information to determine claim validity, using data-driven methodologies

4. Calculate benefit amounts and prepare claim payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations

5. Identify and investigate potential fraudulent claims, applying analytical skills and industry knowledge

6. Maintain meticulous claim files and records, contributing to the department's data integrity

7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex claim issues and support ongoing claims initiatives

8. Stay current with industry regulations and company policies, proactively adapting to changes

9. Provide compassionate, bilingual customer service to beneficiaries during sensitive times

10. Mentor junior claims consultants, fostering their professional development and enhancing team performance

11. Contribute to the development and implementation of claims initiatives, leveraging your expertise to drive innovation

Qualifications:

1. 5+ years of experience in life insurance claims processing or related field

2. Proven adjudication authority in life insurance claims

3. Strong knowledge of life insurance policies and industry regulations

4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset

5. Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and French

6. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality

7. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills

8. Proven ability to work independently and lead team initiatives

9. Empathetic and patient demeanor when dealing with beneficiaries

10. Track record of mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development

11. Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required to answer calls from English and French speaking clients across Canada and worldwide.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Life Insurance Claims Associate (LICA) certification

2. Experience with underwriting or actuarial work

3. Additional language skills beyond the required bilingual proficiency

4. Experience in implementing or managing claims process improvements

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
