Job Description:
We have a fantastic opportunity for a driven and ambitious Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Expert to drive results with one of the most forward-looking asset management firms in Canada. This external role works within wealth distribution under the brand of Sun Life Global Investments. Sun Life Global Investments brings together the strength of Sun Life Financial with best-in-class asset managers from around the world to offer a line-up of unique world class investment solutions.
SLGI’s Tax, Retirement & Estate Planning Team at Sun Life Global Investments provides tax, retirement and estate planning support to financial advisors across Canada on behalf of our Retail Wealth Sales Team to assist with protecting and growing client wealth. Working remotely based in Ontario, this position will report to AVP, Distribution Excellence & Practice Management, supporting the Central Region and others when needed.
This Director will be responsible for supporting advisors and the SLGI Retail Wealth Sales team by responding to detailed tax, retirement and estate planning questions, presenting and creating informational/educational content and ensuring that related content materials consistently reflect changes in applicable legislation. The role will act as a vital resource to our distribution team to further enable the growth of our product line‑ups through the provision of value‑added services. This will include partnership with sales teams and identifying unique sales opportunities through personal, corporate and trust tax, retirement and estate planning concepts. The advisor support and case consultation elements will bring great value to our sales team through the delivery of better solutions to advisors. The role will also provide education to the sales team as subject matter expert for new and existing tax efficient products and services.
What will you do:
Work closely with Retail Wealth Sales team members to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones via value added services that lead to the sale of SLGI products and services;
Act as a subject matter expert and educate financial advisors on tax, retirement and estate planning issues and concepts, changes in legislation, and general solutions
Develop a thorough understanding of the various distribution channels by establishing and enhancing relationships and communication lines.
Promoting and delivering effective tax, estate & retirement planning advice to our sales team and key distribution partners.
Work with sales to provide education and information to advisors and investors through presentations, consultations, calls, emails and other written communication
Deliver an effective number of seminars/workshops/presentations on advanced topics and associated materials to distribution partners.
Proactively work with the Retail Wealth Sales Team to ensure meaningful case work which will result in the placement of quantifiable business with Sun Life Global Investments, including case research and special illustrations.
Deliver and promote sales tools that support Sun Life Global Investment’s products, proprietary financial planning concepts, and specialty needs analyses, including legal and compliance issues, and consumer/allied advisor reference materials.
Develop creative articles to be shared with larger audiences on key initiatives and value added propositions;
Conduct ongoing research on important industry trends and research;
Participate in industry profile building activities with the result that one's profile is enhanced to the benefit of the company and influencing sales results. Keep current, through research, on tax, retirement & estate planning issues.
Work collaboratively with team members to develop new topics, review content, promotional material, and deliverables.
What do you need to succeed:
Knowledge of Canadian and Global investment industry
Strong public speaker with excellent presentation skills
Strong influencing skills
Excellent facilitation and training skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of personal and corporate taxation
Strong analytical skills
Education & Training:
Minimum 7 years of experience in the financial services industry specializing in tax, retirement & estate planning
Expert level knowledge of client taxation, retirement planning and/or estate planning required
CA, LLB or FCIA designation is strongly preferred
Assets:
Completion of CFP is an asset
A TEP designation and completion of one of CPA Canada In-depth Tax Program, M. Tax, or LL.M Tax is an asset
A good understanding of tax and estate laws in Canada and proven application of concepts in a firm setting is an asset
Bilingual in French/English is an asset
Note:
Travel will be required approximately 50% of the time
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
