Job summary

CSE is currently looking to fulfill various roles within a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).

CSIRT Analytical and Systems Engineer (UNMA-07, UNMA-08 and UNMA-09)

As a CSIRT Analytical and Systems Engineer you will design, develop, and maintain automation, analytics, and systems that help CSIRT detect, understand, and respond to cyber threats. You will work on National Outcome projects where you’ll build and design cloud infrastructure and analytics platforms using programming languages and AI, support system planning and design, gather requirements and evaluate new technologies and approaches. In this role, you’ll work in partnership with the many cyber defender communities to guard and protect critical Government of Canada systems as well as provide advice, guidance, and services to organizations within Canada’s Critical Infrastructure sectors.

CSIRT Analytical and Systems Engineer – Supervisor (UNMA-10)

As a Supervisor, you will provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to employees working in a Computer Security Incident Response Team environment. You will coordinate team priorities, assign work, monitor progress, and help ensure that operational and project outcomes are delivered effectively, securely, and on time.

You will supervise and support employees involved in cyber security analysis, automation, systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, data analysis, and incident response support. You will help translate operational requirements into clear tasks, remove obstacles for the team, support employee development, and foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment. You will also contribute to planning, reporting, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and coordination with internal and external partners across the cyber security community.

Location

The majority of our jobs are in Ottawa, Ontario. CSE has two accessible facilities. Flexible work arrangements, including telework for a portion of the work week, may be possible.

Conditions of employment

Enhanced Top Secret (ETS) security clearance is a condition of employment that must be met before an offer can be made.

Essential qualifications

In order to be considered, your cover letter must clearly explain how you meet the following education and experience requirements.

Education

You must have either one of the following:

  • A university degree in a field related to the position, such as (but not limited to) computer science, information technology; or
  • A combination of experience and education (college diploma) in a field related to the position (as above).

Note: The educational program must be recognized in Canada, and you must be able to provide proof of education credentials. Students graduating within the next twelve months are eligible to apply.

Experience

Recent experience in at least one of the following Information technology (IT) practices:

  • IT security technology
  • Application security
  • Network security
  • IT security architecture and design
  • Cyber security analysis
  • IT system development and/or maintenance
  • IT Security incident handling
  • IT system vulnerability assessment
  • Digital Forensics and Incident Response
  • Software development
  • System Administration and Cloud
  • Data analysis
  • For UNMA-10 Supervisor positions
    • Supervising, leading, or coordinating employees or multidisciplinary technical teams.
    • Assigning work, setting priorities, monitoring progress, and supporting delivery of operational or project outcomes.
    • Providing guidance, coaching, feedback, or support to employees, students, contractors, or junior colleagues.

Note: For the purposes of this hiring process, “recent” is defined as experience having normally been acquired within the last five years.

  • English essential means that the position is unilingual English.
  • Bilingual means that knowledge of both official languages (English and French) is required for the position.
    • Imperative means that you must possess the knowledge of both official languages before a job offer can be made.

Candidates meeting the UNMA-09 assessment level may choose to be assessed for the UNMA-10 supervisory position as part of the selection process. Assessment for the UNMA-10 supervisory position is optional and will be conducted in addition to the UNMA-09 assessment requirements.

The intent of this process is to fill vacant positions at CSE. The process may also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various tenures.
